frequently asked questions
What should my child bring?
Each child should bring a hat, water bottle, snacks, lunch and sunscreen (if full-day). Proper tennis shoes are a must to participate in all programs.
Do they need to have their own racquet?
A tennis racquet is required; however, if your child does not have one, we do have a limited number of used racquets on loan. Dunlop junior racquets can also be purchased from Mike.
Are snacks or lunch provided for full-day programs?
Due to COVID-19, we will not be providing food or drinks. Full-day campers are to bring their own peanut-free lunch. We encourage drinking water instead of sugary juices and pop.
What happens when it rains?
Any time it rains during the summer you can choose to either leave your child at the clubhouse for supervised indoor activities or plan other activities for your child and schedule a make-up session.
1. For Summer Camp, please contact Matthew. Ideally, we can make up your session during our Fall Program. If that does not work please let us know and we can work something out.
2. For After-School Programs, you can attend a later session (if we have room) or reschedule for another day. We will always do what's best to ensure you're happy with the resolution.
3. Let us know if the above options don't work and we will work something else out!
What type of activities will my child be participating in?
We are a tennis-specific academy; therefore, all activities from the warm-up until the end of the session are geared towards learning tennis fundamentals. All participants will warm up at the beginning by running and stretching. Depending on the level of play they will do drills and engage in games geared towards improving their level of play. More advanced students will play matches and learn strategies on how to construct points.
What about early drop-off or late pick-up? (Summer Camp)
Early drop off at 7:00 a.m. and late pick up, up to 6:00 p.m. is provided at a rate of $5.00 per hour. You must arrange drop-off and pick-up times with Mike or Matthew when registering for camp.
Do they have to be members?
Martingrove Tennis Club requires all camp/program participants to be members of the club. The junior membership fee is $20 and covers the use of the court during the camp/program and outside of academy activities except for adult program times. Please check the Martingrove website for further details.
Is the Academy tax deductible?
Yes. The camp is considered a physical activity, based on the provincial bylaws; therefore, receipts will be issued once payment is made.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment (e-Transfer, credit, debit, cash and cheque).
Do you have a General FAQ for more serious questions?
